HOW TO BE SAFE: WHAT EVERY WOMAN NEEDS TO KNOW TO THRIVE IN THE 21ST CENTURY

I am working on a series of articles about various aspects of women's safety. For now I am calling this collection How To Be Safe: What Every Woman Needs to Know to Thrive in the 21st Century.

I know firsthand about violent crime. I was 24 years old when two men grabbed me from behind and one of them pressed a gun against my head while the other emptied my purse of its contents. I thought I had put that that experience behind me. Then one evening I was watching the local TV news and saw parents begging for information about their daughter who had disappeared after going to a local gas station.

Frustrated by the countless stories about women who are missing, assaulted, kidnapped, and raped, I became determined to do whatever I could to make sure that women know how to protect themselves, which includes having relevant information.

My research for the How To Be Safe  articles includes interviews with crime experts, legislators, women advocates, and technology innovators. I have discovered a treasure trove of information, inexpensive products, and apps. I am looking forward to sharing everything I am learning with you.
